Cerami provided IT, AV and acoustical services for the Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit, home to the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings and NBA’s Detroit Pistons. The multi-purpose indoor arena features a unique, glass-roofed concourse connecting it to offices and surrounding shops. It offers seating capacity of 20,000 in the arena and 5,000 in open and covered outdoor areas. Its “deconstructed” design engages the community 365 days a year with the “Via” – a destination all its own.

The multi-purpose nature of the event center encompasses extensive broadcast and audiovisual requirements and a highly resilient converged IT network supporting POS, food and beverage, merchandising, building management, access control, video surveillance, teams, press, audio, and IPTV distribution to name a few systems. In addition, a single high-density ubiquitous Wi-Fi network is in place to support production and guest access.

A neutral host distributed antenna system provides superior cellular performance throughout. All of these systems are designed to provide an unsurpassed guest experience from the parking lot to center ice. The data center as well as the Wi-Fi, DAS, and security services extend to other local Illich facilities under common ownership to leverage its investment.

Signature Solution: An outdoor events plaza flanked by a large LED video board accommodates public use beyond the arena’s walls. Working with Disguise, Cerami designed the jewel skin wall on the upper concourse, one for the projections onto the ice and basketball court, and one as a backup unit. When the Redwings score a goal, it triggers the lights in the parking garage and on the exterior of the building, the jewel skin wall display and the graphics on ice. Everything comes together as one surface with one cohesive infrastructure.

We’re behind the Detroit Pistons all the way, having designed the IT backbone at their 175,00 square-foot training facility and corporate headquarters, including AV in their broadcast studio, player tracking that teleports to the coaches, and security systems that create a player oasis where they need not worry about anything but their game. Created to be the envy of the league, and attract even more top tier talent, the PPC has it all.

Signature Solution: Working hand in hand with the Pistons, Cerami created a security system based on biometrics, where the Pistons can come and go without being flagged down by fans or the press. Even Isiah Thomas (a Piston for 13 years) couldn’t get in without a pass!
