Cerami provided acoustical and audiovisual design services for the Vagelos Education Center, a state-of-the-art center for learning, meeting and collaboration for use by CUMC students and faculty, as well as the local community, visiting dignitaries and members of the wider academic community.
Due to the small building footprint, the design resulted in several double height spaces connected by an interior stairs to encourage vertical flow within the building. Spaces included lounge type areas for places of learning, socializing and collaboration combined with the large volume of spaces creating conflicting acoustics making selection of acoustic finishes paramount. Additional design elements includ the auditorium where the walls are comprised entirely of glass, one exterior facade wall and one wall separating the auditorium from a public circulation and gathering space.
Other key program elements include technologically advanced and intensive audiovisual medical simulation rooms requiring special acoustic consideration for student simulation to be recorded and played back for evaluation.
