Cerami & Associates was hired by Hines to provide acoustical consulting services for Takeda Pharmaceuticals new headquarters. The project includes three office buildings situated on a prime, 70-acre site fronting the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and Lake Cook Road. The first phase, consisting of two five-story office buildings, each containing 350,000 square feet achieved LEED Gold certification.
Both buildings are five-story steel office structures with raised floors and are enclosed in a high performance glass and aluminum skin. Our acoustical consultants made recommendations for the curtain wall glazing and for the roof slab construction and location for mechanical units in order to mitigate noise and vibration while maintaining the site lines of the building. We also specified base building wall and partition constructions (particularly those of mechanical rooms), door construction, and sound attenuators for the rooftop air handlers.
For the interior spaces, we reviewed the acoustical conditions at Takeda’s existing facility in Lincolnshire, IL to survey various acoustic conditions that define Takeda’s current office environment, including background noise and the level of speech privacy offered at different spaces. From there we tested the environmental conditions at the new site, reviewed the architects’ design, and made recommendations accordingly in space such as the executive offices, private offices, conference rooms, and open plan areas. Additionally we made recommendations for the sound masking system which also integrated a building paging system.
