Sirius Satellite Radio provides commercial-free broadcasting on over 100 channels coast-to-coast. This requires a lot of content, and extensive studio space in which to prepare this content. Sirius Radio selected to have their studios located at 1221 Avenue of the Americas, on the 26th and 27th floors.
Cerami provided design services for the glass panel studio rooms, which utilized lightweight floating floors and room-within-a-room designs. With over thirty different studios on these two floors, it was important to coordinate carefully in order to create acoustically appropriate spaces for all of the rooms. Cerami provided extensive field support to ensure construction was completed as designed and that the space was successfully adapted to suit the field conditions of remodeling an existing space.
The completed suites, including three performance studios with all glass walls, are used by in-house personnel and hired talent to fulfill the needs of all the channels of varied content from talk to news to various types of music. The criteria established for sound separation was very high, with expected performance in excess of STC 60, even though some rooms are small and have at least one glass wall.
