While the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League play their home games at Madison Square Garden, most of their operations run from the Training Facility in Greenburgh, NY. Players practice and train here, and coaches and managers work to make critical team decisions, which is why they asked Cerami to provide acoustical consulting services to increase speech privacy in the coach and GM offices, and increase speech intelligibility in their practice rink.
For the offices, we were told they needed privacy levels ranging from “excellent” to “highly confidential” because the adjacent players lounge and weight room would become loud and boisterous and make discussions between the management staff difficult. Also, discussions held in those offices often dealt with sensitive issues regarding the players.
For the practice rink, we realized that reverberation was the main problem for speech intelligibility, so we recommended the installation of sound-absorptive hanging baffles be placed along at least 50% of the ceiling. These baffles also offer a wide range of aesthetic possibilities, being that they come in all colors and patterns.
