Projects / Transportation

One of New York’s main transportation hubs, Grand Central Station, a Beaux-Arts style building, underwent a complete renovation to restore the space to its former beauty. Involved in this important restoration and renovation was the addition of new technology systems that required Cerami & Associates’ expertise. Much of the effort was directed at behind-the-scenes areas such as the station master’s office, the security office, the Fire Department, Engineering Department, and many of the retail spaces located in Grand Central.

Cerami worked with the architect and engineers to select proper placement of new mechanical systems in various parts of the building. Coordination with the architect and design team ensured that noise control treatments for the mechanical systems fit within the aesthetic of the historic space. In addition, Cerami conducted surveys at adjacent buildings to ensure that noise transmitted from the new mechanical equipment were within New York City’s noise code regulations.
