The UVA Hospital expansion project provided significant reconstruction and expansion of operating rooms and clinical and associated support space for critical hospital services including the Heart and Vascular Center, Peri-operative Services, Department of Radiology and Department of Pathology/ Division of Clinical Laboratories. We also provided upgrades to the hospital lobby and cafeteria.

Cerami worked with the design team during the renovation process. This involved the replacement of mechanical systems along with interior architecture renovation. Of particular concern were patient privacy standards, as well as acoustical functional requirements for operating and patient care areas. Lobbies and patient check-in rooms were designed to ensure confidentiality requirements were met.

We also worked in close coordination with the structural engineer to ensure appropriate vibration isolation for critical imaging applications such as MRI facilities. This included field testing existing structures with vibration measurement equipment and coordinating results with the design team.
