The Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverside provides care to over 3,000 elderly people in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Westchester County with three residential health care facilities, two apartment communities, and its own community services division. For 85 years, the Hebrew Home has been striving to provide a high quality of life and develop a sense of community for the people under its care. To aid in their objective, Cerami & Associates was asked to provide their audiovisual design services for their facilities.
One of the focal points for this project was the facility’s winter garden. Our AV team created an infrastructure to accommodate a reproduction/voice reinforcement system to permit playback of pre-recorded audio material, a microphone pickup for speaking or musical performances, and two flush floor boxes for connectivity. Wall plates for TV cameras to record events in the garden onto a VCR were installed. The audio for the events would be provided through ceiling speakers and be transmitted through portable receivers as part of the Assisted Listening System. Power amplifiers, microphone mixers, and a multimedia system that includes cd/video/audio cassette playback and recording capabilities were also installed.
We centralized the audio signals and volume controls for the rest of the facility into an AV rack in the reception area where all of the audio feeds for the portable receivers for the Assisted Listening System will be sent from. Each room, however, was equipped with a ceiling-mounted speaker system and wall-mounted volume control capabilities.
